This week’s recall roundup includes vegan truffles being taken off the marketplace due to undeclared milk and fish sandwiches that contain a potential choking hazard.

Recall roundup:

Pathogens

Strauss Israel is voluntarily recalling the following Elite branded products: Elite chocolate, cakes, wafers, energy grain snacks, chewing gum, among a few others from the US marketplace due to the fact that they may be contaminated with Salmonella. A list of the recalled products can be found here.

The products have been distributed nationally, primarily in the Tri-State area of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, California and Florida. Additionally, products have been sold directly to customers online via sites such as Amazon, Fresh Direct and Passover.com.

Foreign objects

In the US, Gorton’s Seafood is voluntarily recalling its Gorton’s Fish Sandwich due to the “isolated and unusual potential presence” of bone fragments. Consumption of this recalled product may pose a choking hazard or other physical injury, according to the FDA website.

Undeclared allergens

In the UK, Anthony Rowcliffe & Son Ltd is recalling its 180g Clemency Hall Manchego Cheese because it contains egg which is not mentioned on the label. This means the product – which has the use by date of 28 May 2022 – is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to egg.

Produce Packaging, Inc. of Willoughby Hills, Ohio, meanwhile, is voluntarily recalling its Red Curry Grain Bowl and Barcelona Vinaigrette Grain Bowl. These bowls are being recalled because they contain wheat, which is not declared on the label. The potentially affected products were distributed to retail stores in Ohio and Illinois. The FDA states that people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these particular grain bowls.

Finally, TJX Canada is recalling Pimlico Confectioners brand Vegan Fine Hazelnut Truffles from the marketplace because it contains milk which is not mentioned on the label. The recalled product has been sold throughout the country.
