Pieminister has recalled 10 pie varieties after discovering a labelling error that extended their use-by date by one year. The affected products display a use-by of 24 June 2026, instead of the correct date: 24 June 2025.
The pies were made in the company’s Bristol kitchens and distributed nationwide. Pieminister confirmed the products are safe to eat only up to 24 June 2025; therefore, consuming them after this date could pose a health risk.
Founded in Bristol in 2003 by Tristan Hogg and Jon Simon, Pieminister has grown from a Borough Market stall to a multimillion-pound brand with outlets in cities including London, Cardiff, Manchester and Amsterdam. Despite its expansion, Pieminister still produces all its pies in Bristol.
Affected products
The recall affects a range of meat, vegetarian and vegan pies:
- Pieminister Moo – British Beef Steak and Craft Ale Pie 270g
- Pieminister Moo & Blue – British Beef Steak and Stilton Pie 270g
- Pieminister Kate & Sidney – British Beef Steak, Kidney and Craft Ale Pie 270g
- Pieminister Deer & Beer – Venison, Milk Stout, Mushroom and Thyme Pie 270g
- Pieminister Free Ranger – Free Range British Chicken and Ham Pie with Leek 270g
- Pieminister Fungi Chicken – Free Range British Chicken, Portobello and Chestnut Mushroom Pie 270g
- Pieminister Wild Shroom – Portobello and Chestnut Mushroom Pie with Asparagus and White Wine 270g
- Pieminister Mooless Moo – Jackfruit ‘Steak’, Craft Ale and Black Pepper Pie 270g
- Pieminister – Goat’s Cheese and Sweet Potato Filo Pie with Red Onion and Spinach 270g
- Pieminister – Spinach and Feta Filo Pie with Kale, Lemon and Dill 270g
Pieminister confirmed that the recall does not affect any other products or batches.
Pieminister recall statement
In a statement, the company said: “Pieminister Kitchens would like to reassure our customers that these pies have been produced to the same exacting standards of food safety and quality that you expect from us, and they are completely safe to eat until 24.06.2025.”
They added: “Pieminister Kitchens apologise for any inconvenience this technical issue may cause our customers and assure them that we take this matter very seriously. We are working closely with our technical teams and have implemented additional measures to prevent similar issues from occurring in the future.”
Customer recall information
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has confirmed that stores selling the affected pies will display point-of-sale notices warning customers not to consume the products beyond the correct use-by date.
Consumers may return any impacted pies to the store where they bought them for a full refund.
