Western United Fish Company has issued a recall of its Kirkland Signature Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke, sold in Costco deli sections nationwide, after testing found that the green onions in the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Why it’s raising concerns

The Costco tuna recall underscores the ongoing challenges of food safety in ready-to-eat seafood products. It follows another Costco tuna recall earlier this year tied to botulism risks, reinforcing the importance of stricter monitoring and supply chain vigilance.

Listeria symptoms and risks

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns that listeria infection, or listeriosis, can cause fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea lasting several days. More serious infections can trigger headaches, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, or seizures.

The illness is especially dangerous for pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems, where complications may include miscarriage or stillbirth.

Recall details

  • Product: Kirkland Signature Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke
  • Quantity affected: 3,315 pounds
  • Sold at: Costco deli sections
  • Sell by date: September 22, 2025
  • Distribution: At least 32 states, including California, New York, Texas, Florida, and Washington
  • Reported illnesses: None so far

Customers who bought the product are urged not to eat it. Instead, the FDA advises either disposing of it safely or returning it to Costco for a full refund.

What shoppers should do

Anyone who may have consumed the recalled tuna poke should monitor for symptoms of listeriosis and seek medical care if illness develops.

For further information, consumers can contact Western United Fresh Co. (Annasea Foods Group) at (425) 558-7809 during business hours or email [email protected].

Industry response

The FDA continues to track the recall and has urged seafood manufacturers and distributors to strengthen food safety practices. Updates will be shared on official FDA recall alert channels as the situation develops.
