Mondelez recalls select Ritz cracker sandwich packs after peanut butter varieties were mislabelled as cheese, posing a serious allergen risk. No illnesses have been reported to date.

Mondelez has issued a voluntary recall of select Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwich multipacks due to a packaging error that could pose a serious risk to consumers with peanut allergies.
The precautionary recall follows the discovery of a labelling error affecting individual snack packs contained within certain multipack cartons. While the outer cartons are correctly labelled and carry appropriate allergen information, some individual packs inside are incorrectly marked as “Cheese variety” despite containing peanut butter.
The recall affects specific best-before dates across several pack sizes sold in the United States, including:
- 8-count and 20-count cartons of Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches (best-before dates: 1–9 November 2025)
- 40-count cartons (best-before dates: 1–9 November 2025 and 2–22 January 2026)
- 20-count Ritz Cracker Sandwich Variety Packs (best-before dates: 2–9 November 2025)
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has published full details of the recall, including affected UPC codes.
Mondelez said the mislabelling was caused by a supplier error in the packaging film rolls used for the individually wrapped cracker sandwiches. Although the outer packaging includes a peanut allergen advisory, the inconsistency in labelling on the individual packs could result in accidental consumption by individuals with peanut allergies — potentially leading to serious or life-threatening reactions.
In a statement, Mondelez confirmed:
This recall is being conducted as a precaution. We have taken corrective action to prevent this type of error from occurring again.”
The company also confirmed that no other Ritz products or Mondelez snack brands are affected by the recall. Products outside the specified best-before dates are not included.
Mondelez International owns a wide portfolio of global snacking brands including BelVita, Oreo, Triscuit, Chips Ahoy, and Wheat Thins, alongside Ritz.
Consumers who are allergic or sensitive to peanuts are advised to dispose of the affected products immediately. No cases of illness or injury have been reported to date.
