Where now for food safety in Europe?

The European Association for Food Safety presents its opinion on the five key areas of food safety research critical for ensuring safe food for the next decade; this vision of food safety priorities is intended to keep Food safety in the forefront of the H2020 agenda.

Food safety has been a priority of the European food sector for several decades, reflected in its emphasis in the successive Framework Programmes. Horizon 2020 continues this, yet less clearly, as food safety is now embedded into the areas of health and well-being and food security, rather than being mentioned as an area in its own right. This is one of the reasons that several organisations, including the European Association for Food Safety, SAFE consortium, felt the need to stress that there should be attention for key food safety-relevant research priorities for the near future. A continuing emphasis on food safety should be adequately considered, also within Horizon 2020…
