Among the variety of retail and artisan entrants in the 2023 Free From Food Awards’ ‘Cheese Alternatives’ category, judges crowned Cathedral City Plant Based with a gold medal.

Cathedral City Plant Based was chosen by a panel of judges alongside Fully Free’s Cashew-Brie Original as the winners of the ‘Cheese Alternatives’ category.

In 2022, Cathedral City launched its Plant Based block. It is currently available in block, sliced and grated formats, with the company claiming it has “exceeded expectation in the dairy free alternative to cheese category”.

The product has won other awards previously, including the Plant Based Taste Award in 2022.

Intellectual property: A key ingredient to plant based success?

The success doesn’t seem to stop there though as Cathedral City has claimed that the Saputo Dairy UK brand is “valued at over £298m and [is] bought by 42 percent of all UK households”. Saputo Dairy UK’s is the producer of varies well known brands in the UK, including Clover, Country Life and Frylight.

“It’s been our mission to deliver great quality and value to the plant-based category and provide an offering for consumers that doesn’t sacrifice taste, texture or quality, so receiving yet another award for Cathedral City Plant-Based is a great achievement for us,” said Neil Stewart, Head of Marketing at Saputo Dairy UK.
