Researchers have determined that the Microctonus brassicae wasp species, and genetically similar parasitic wasps, could be used in controlled conditions as a biocontrol to protect oilseed rape and other crops from damaging pests.
The high fibre white flour that the research team produced is said to contain as much as twice the fibre of traditional white flour, paving the way for healthier white bread.
Results from the John Innes Centre research show that the new system yields transformation efficiencies of up to 25 percent – five times those generally achieved using comparable systems.
The money is expected to develop scientific breakthroughs in crop research and innovation.
Contributors from academic institutions and industry spanning 15 countries raised $150,000 to crowdfund the ambitious directory.
