Morrisons recalls sausages over plastic contamination risk

Morrisons is recalling The Best 6 Thick Cumberland Sausages due to fears they may contain blue plastic. Consumers are urged not to eat the product and to return it for a full refund.

Morrisons has issued an urgent recall for its The Best 6 Thick Cumberland Sausages amid fears the product may be contaminated with small pieces of blue plastic.
The recall affects the 400g packs of sausages with a use-by date of 1 May 2025. No other Morrisons products are known to be affected at this time.
The supermarket is advising customers who have purchased the sausages not to eat them. Instead, shoppers should return the product to their nearest Morrisons store, where they will receive a full refund without needing to provide a receipt.
To help alert consumers, Morrisons has placed point of sale notices in all stores where the affected product was sold. These notices explain why the product is being recalled and outline the next steps customers should take.
Food Standards Agency advice
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has also issued a food alert regarding the product. It stated:
“The recall is due to a physical contamination risk that could cause harm if consumed. If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, it might be withdrawn or recalled.”
Physical contamination in food products poses serious health risks, and the presence of plastic fragments can lead to injury if ingested.
Morrisons, the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket chain behind Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda, employs around 95,000 people across the country. The retailer said it is taking swift precautionary measures to protect customer safety.
