Univar, a leading global chemical distributor, announced today that it has appointed Simon Atkins as Sales & Marketing Manager for its Food Ingredients business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Atkins will focus on driving sales and marketing activity into the Food industry across all 25 EMEA territories, working with local teams to create revenue and market growth whilst developing and enhancing the Univar Food Ingredients brand. He will work closely with Univar’s supplier management teams and technical support teams to create an effective, consistent, customer-focused and growth-oriented Food Ingredients business. He will leverage the company’s in-house recipe and formulation development expertise as well as its dedicated food kitchen laboratories, where new food and drink products are created by Univar’s food technicians, using ingredients from its portfolio such as enzymes, clear proteins, colours, sweeteners and fibres.

Atkins’s career at Univar spans almost 15 years. He managed Distrupol’s Sales Office in the United Kingdom for ten years before moving to a more market-focused role, leading Univar’s Colour business from 2006.

“The EMEA food market is a very interesting place for us to be right now as we are present in a wide range of territories at different levels of market maturity,” explains Atkins. “I am really looking forward to helping increase our sales and customer focus across the whole region as well as building the Univar Food Ingredients brand both internally and in the marketplace.”

“Simon’s knowledge, experience and recent leadership of our enzymes drive and Colour business, make him highly qualified to lead Univar’s Food Ingredients business in EMEA,” says Martin Pugh, Marketing Director EMEA. “His deep understanding of the sales process will enable him to work effectively with our specialised European Food Kitchen Laboratories and local teams on the ground to develop innovations and solutions that are relevant, practical and customer-focused.”

Univar’s strong sales and marketing teams complement chemical producers and create value for customers. The company provides technical expertise in application development, excellence in logistics support, and outstanding customer service to help its partners grow their business.
