The European Commission has launched an on-line consultation to help define criteria for “endocrine disruptors” as required by EU regulations on biocides and pesticides.

The consultation refers to EFSA’s 2013 scientific opinion on the hazard assessment of endocrine disruptors. EFSA’s Scientific Committee endorsed a WHO definition of endocrine active substances as substances that can interact or interfere with normal hormonal action. When this can be shown to cause adverse effects, they are called endocrine disruptors.

The Commission’s online consultation is open until 16 January 2015.
