Campbell Soup Company (NYSE:CPB) today announced the appointment of Ümit Subaşı to the role of President, Asia Pacific. In this role, Subaşı will be responsible for Campbell’s Australian, Southeast Asian and Pacific operations, including “Arnott’s” biscuits and “Campbell’s” soup, stock and beverages.

Subaşı will be based at Campbell Arnott’s regional headquarters in Sydney and will report to Luca Mignini, President − Campbell International. His appointment is effective Nov. 1, 2013.

Subaşı has more than 20 years of experience in the global fast-moving consumer goods industry. Prior to joining Campbell, he was President, Emerging Markets and a member of the Executive Board of Beiersdorf AG, one of the world’s leading personal care companies. In this role, he was responsible for significantly expanding the company’s presence in emerging markets. During his tenure, he led strategy, implemented new operating models and delivered top-line growth for brands such as “Nivea” across Latin America, India, Africa, Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Middle East.

Mignini said, “Ümit is an outstanding leader who has a track record of delivering strong growth in established markets such as Europe, as well as developing markets in Latin America and Asia. It’s this combination that gives me confidence Ümit will fast-track our efforts to strengthen our core businesses in Australia and New Zealand while accelerating our expansion into faster-growing geographies across Southeast Asia.”

Subaşı began his career with SC Johnson in 1993 and held increasingly senior general management positions in both developed and developing markets. During his 17-year tenure, he provided broad commercial leadership for the company’s brands in such countries as Germany, Romania, Russia, CIS and Turkey. He possesses extensive experience in turning around businesses, expanding distribution, creating sales strategies and establishing new operations in emerging economies.

Subaşı holds a degree in Business Administration from the Anadolu University in Turkey and in 1997 he completed the Euro Executive Post-Graduate Program at INSEAD in Paris.

Subaşı succeeds Gareth Edgecombe, who joined Campbell in 2011. Edgecombe departs a few months short of his three-year term after successfully spearheading a growth plan for Campbell’s Asia Pacific business and setting the team on their course.
