The descheduling (or rescheduling) of cannabis in the US would mean that clinical trials on medical products containing cannabis would be necessary – and that is an expensive process. But there would be many positives too. Universities rely on federal funding for much of their research, and as cannabis is currently federally illegal in the US, those conducting research into this field cannot gain access to grants. Descheduling would enable research to ‘open up’, as money could be invested. As such, we’d be able to answer a lot of unknowns that currently exist.
