Professor Colin Dennis, former Director-General of Campden BRI, received the Myron Solberg Award at the annual conference of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) in New Orleans last week. This award “honors an IFT member for providing leadership in the establishment and successful development and continuation of industry/government/academia cooperative organization.” The citation reads…. “Throughout Professor Dennis’s career in food science and technology, he has dedicated himself to developing collaborative efforts between industry, government and academia.” It also mentions his work in securing a government-funded energy conservation project for the canning industry, and in initiating industrial training for university students at Campden BRI. He was also the first Campden BRI staff member to be appointed a University Visiting Professor – a position subsequently achieved by three more staff members.
Current Campden BRI Director-General, Steven Walker commented: “We were delighted that Colin’s contribution to the food industry was further recognised last week. The work that he started has subsequently grown at Campden BRI and we continue to provide world class services to the food industry with the practical application of technical excellence at the forefront of our delivery commitments. Our approach remains absolute in further developing collaborative projects with governments and academic institutions around the world as well as providing commercially relevant, practical solutions for the food and drink supply chain in over 60 countries”.
