Long-time Valio executive Veijo Meriläinen, M.Sc. (Agriculture and Forestry), eMBA, will take retirement on 30th June 2011 after 33 years of service. Mr Meriläinen’s most recent post was Executive Vice President of Valio’s International Operations and Innovations division, and he was appointed to the Valio Group Executive Board.

Mr Meriläinen has played many different roles at Valio since 1978 and has been a member of the Executive Board since 1990.

Mr Meriläinen’s career has alongside his work as a Valio executive seen him play an important role in overseeing the interests of the dairy industry both in Finland and on the international stage. He has spoken on behalf of Finnish milk production e.g. as both a member and the chairman of the Board of the European Dairy Association from 1999-2009.

Responsibility for Valio’s foreign subsidiaries and for its innovation business will be reorganised as of 1st February 2011 amongst members of the Valio Executive Board.
