A world wrapped in food packaging

As the reality of climate change sets in, Dr Andy Zynga asks the question: are we doing enough for our planet when it comes to food packaging?

As we approach the end of another year, attention will once again turn to future trends, with many making their forecasts for the next 12 months. By looking ahead to the new year, we are given the chance to reflect on our food system and debate the changes that are needed to meet ever-urgent targets, such as the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

We have seen huge change in 2022 with external influences like climate change and the Russian war on Ukraine challenging the status quo in food production and impacting our food security. From the rapid diversification of protein sources to the scaling up of sustainable and regenerative agricultural practices, there are countless food system trends that are likely to see the spotlight in 2023. One that has seen steady progress for a while now, however, is the development of sustainable food packaging and labelling solutions.
