In the latest instalment of Recall Roundup (15-21 November 2024), New Food highlights recent food and beverage recalls in the UK and US.
Undeclared peanuts
In the UK, FGS Ingredients Ltd is continuing its recent major recall on food and spice products that contain mustard.
These products are being recalled as they may contain peanuts not listed on the label, posing a serious health risk for individuals with a peanut allergy.
Customers are advised to check the latest allergy alert on the FSA website for updated products added to the recall list.
Anyone who has purchased any of these products and has a peanut allergy should not consume them. Instead, they should return the products to the store where they were bought for a full refund.
Undeclared sesame and duck
Aldi is recalling all dates of their Let’s Party Vegetable Bao Buns (8 pack) product because they contain sesame and duck meat which is not mentioned on the label.
This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to sesame.
If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to sesame, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.
Salmonella contamination
Also in the UK, Tesco is recalling its Tzatziki Dip (200g) because Salmonella has been found in the product, which could cause a fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps in those who consume it.
The recalled product contains the use by date of 24 November 2024.
If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to any Tesco store for a full refund.
Listeria monocytogenes contamination
McCaughey Foods is recalling Glensallagh Salt & Chilli Roast Chicken Wings (350g) because Listeria monocytogenes has been found in the product. This product is only sold in Lidl stores in Northern Ireland and contains the use by date of 23 November 2024.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause severe, sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. In pregnant women, infection can lead to miscarriage or stillbirth.
If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.
Presence of copper
Lidl GB is recalling Meadow Fresh Potato Salads because they may contain pieces of copper. The possible presence of copper makes these products unsafe to eat.
The recalled products are:
- Meadow Fresh Potato Salad with Yoghurt (500g) with use by dates of 7 December 2024, 13 December 2024, 14 December 2024, 16 December 2024, 21 December 2024.
- Meadow Fresh Potato Salad with Crème Fraiche (500g) with use by dates of 12 December 2024, 16 December 2024, 23 December 2024.
Consumers are advised not to eat them. Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund.
Potential E. coli contamination
In the latest US recall, several brands have recalled products this week due to potential E. coli O121:H19 contamination.
E. coli O121:H19 is a bacterium that can cause severe and potentially fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include severe stomach cramps, diarrhoea (sometimes bloody), fever, nausea, and vomiting.
In severe cases, it can lead to complications such as haemolytic uraemic syndrome, high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease, or neurological issues. The incubation period ranges from 24 hours to 10 days.
The recalled products include:
- Grimmway Farms organic whole carrots and organic baby carrots
- Fabalish Kickin’ Carrot Falafel Bites
- Whole Foods Market 15 oz. Organic Carrot Sticks and Whole Foods Market 15 oz. Organic Carrots & Celery
For lot codes and best-before dates of all recalled products, please refer to the FDA recall links above.
Customers who purchased any of these items are urged not to consume them, should dispose of them and sanitise surfaces they may have touched.
Undeclared egg
Babcock Dairy is expanding its recent recall on Orange Custard Chocolate Chip ice cream that may be mislabelled as Chocolate Peanut Butter.
People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
The recalled products now include the production dates of 17 September 2024 and 30 September 2024.
There have been no reports of illness associated with consumption of these products.
If your product is from the affected lot, please return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Potential lead contamination
Finally in the US this week, IHA Beverage is recalling its Super Cinnamon Powder 4oz due to potential contamination with elevated lead levels.
Lead exposure can harm nearly every bodily system, with risks depending on the level, duration, and individual factors such as age and weight. Children face risks like developmental issues and learning disorders from prolonged exposure, while adults may experience kidney dysfunction, hypertension, and neurocognitive effects.
The recalled product has the UPC#610232012476 and comes in a 4oz plastic bag labelled as Super Dried Cinnamon Powder.
Consumers who have purchased Super Cinnamon Powder 4oz are urged to discard in the trash or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
