Recall Roundup: Labelling errors

In the latest instalment of Recall Roundup, we highlight recent food and beverage recalls in the UK and US.

Labelling

In the UK, Nichols is recalling Vimto Original due to the bottles being labelled with a “No Added Sugar” statement despite the bottles containing sugar.

This recall is England, Scotland and Wales specific and has been issued as the product has the potential to be a risk to consumers who need to manager their sugar intake.

Included in the recall is the ‘Love The Taste’ Promotional Pack versions of Vimto Original, that come in a pack size of 500ml. The batch codes to look out for are 4051 and 4052 and the best before date for this product is October 2024.

Meanwhile products with the batch codes 4073 and 4074 are also being recalled. The best before date to look out for November 2024.

The ‘Love The Taste’ Promotional Pack versions of Vimto Original with a £1.25 price mark are also being recalled. The batch codes involved in this recall are 4050 and 4051 and the best before date for this October 2024. In addition the batch codes 4072 and 4073 are involved in this recall, with the best before date November 2024.

Point of sales notices will be displayed in all of the stores selling the above products to explain why the product is being recalled.

Advice to consumers states that those that have purchased the product and need to manage their sugar intake should not drink them. Instead they can be returned to the store of purchase for a full refund.

Meanwhile in the US, Home Style Foods, Inc is recalling 43 cases of “Kowalski Simply Sides – Jack’s Potato Salad” as the product contains egg that is not mentioned on the label.

Instead of declaring the egg allergen, the back label of the product that containing the Nutrition Facts and Ingredients incorrectly reads “Very Berry Strawberry”.

The affected products were distributed in Michigan to 25 stores. This recall includes 21 Kroger locations, Larry’s Foodland, Tenuta’s Market, Diamond Dot Market, and Holiday Market Royal Oak.

Researchers share guidelines to help children “build tolerance” to food allergens

The product was sold in a 16oz round plastic deli cup, with a sell by date of 04/29/2024 and a UPC code of 754721282701.

The company claims that “no illnesses have been reported to date” in relation to this recall.

Advice to consumers states that the product can be returned to the store of purchase for a full refund.
