Zizzi has issued a recall of its Vegan Jackfruit Pepperoni Rustica Pizza, part of the Italian restaurant chain’s Dine In At Home range, due to the potential presence of undeclared milk.
This makes the product unsafe for individuals with a milk allergy or intolerance and unsuitable for vegans.
The recall follows what the company describes as a “potential contamination,” with milk not declared on the product label, posing a health risk for those sensitive to milk or its constituents.
Product details:
- Product: Zizzi Vegan Jackfruit Pepperoni Rustica Pizza
- Pack size: 400g pizza + 8ml chilli oil
- Batch code: 5105
- Best before: 15 July 2026
The affected batch was only sold in Tesco stores.
In a statement, Zizzi said:
“We’re recalling a small number of packs of our Zizzi Vegan Rustica Jackfruit Pepperoni Pizza 400g due to a potential issue with undeclared milk. Some of these pizzas may have been accidentally cross-contaminated with milk, which isn’t listed on the label. This means the product could pose a health risk to anyone with a dairy allergy or lactose intolerance. It also means it’s not suitable for a vegan diet, despite being labelled as vegan—and we know that’s not what you expect from us.”
They added: “We’re really sorry for any worry or inconvenience this may cause, and we’re working closely with our partners to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
Zizzi has issued point-of-sale notices, informing customers of the recall and advising them on next steps.
FSA advice
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) advises:
If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund (with or without a receipt).”
