The emergent pathogen Alternaria is the causal agent of disease in cereals, fruits and vegetables. Some species can produce toxic secondary metabolites, mycotoxins, that accumulate in fruits and grains. Warmer temperatures and dry weather will increase its incidence in crops in the Northern Hemisphere.
