Nestlé has completed the first phase of its global digital core upgrade, enabling AI and automation at scale to transform operations.

Nestlé has completed the first phase of its digital core upgrade, in what the company describes as the “world’s largest-ever” SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition deployment.
The upgrade enables AI and automation at scale across Nestlé’s global operations and marks a major step in its digital transformation, strengthening supply chain resilience, modernising procurement and accelerating innovation.
We need to combine great consumer insights and innovation with flexibility and scale, to provide great quality products to consumers around the world when, where and how they want them.”
More than 50,000 Nestlé employees across 112 countries in Asia, Oceania and Africa are already using the new system, with a full global rollout expected within two years. The company says the enhancement will boost operational efficiency and free up resources to invest in its global brands.
“Driving growth through innovation is a top priority,” said Anna Manz, Nestlé CFO and responsible for Integrated Business Services. “We are transforming our business to invest more boldly in the best opportunities. We need to combine great consumer insights and innovation with flexibility and scale, to provide great quality products to consumers around the world when, where and how they want them. This upgrade will help us build multi-year innovation pipelines, more agile production and digital-first marketing and sales platforms for areas like cold coffee, therapeutic pet food and modern cooking aids.”
Benefits for Nestlé’s core systems and operations
The new platform embeds SAP’s AI copilot directly into Nestlé’s core systems, giving employees faster access to insights, automation of routine tasks and more informed decision-making.
Among the specific benefits highlighted are:
- Next-generation intelligent order fulfilment for retailers, ensuring products are consistently available in-store and online.
- Real-time, data-driven decision-making for consistent reporting and planning.
- Standardised cloud-based procurement for global spend visibility and cost savings.
Chris Wright, Head of Nestlé IT and CIO, said: “Having a common ERP system as our backbone is already a tremendous advantage for Nestlé. With the upgrade, we gain more flexibility, capabilities and insights that will help us roll out new products globally faster to meet the needs of our customers and consumers. And with the use of AI and automation at scale, we’ll drive efficiency and effectiveness throughout our value chain.”
Thomas Saueressig, Member of the Executive Board at SAP SE for Customer Services & Delivery, added: “Nestlé’s successful go-live of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition showcases how scale can be a strategic advantage for innovation. The company exemplifies how cutting-edge technology empowers global brands to anticipate consumer trends, optimise operations, and deliver exceptional experiences at scale.”
