Frozen burrito bowls sold at Target recalled over undeclared shrimp

One Frozen LLC is recalling 57,240 Good & Gather Southwest-Style Burrito Bowl Blend units from Target stores nationwide after uncovering undeclared shrimp in the product.

In the recall notice, the company warned:

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to shellfish run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.”

Shellfish allergies are among the most common in both adults and children, affecting around two percent of the US population, and are usually lifelong. Furthermore, around 60 percent of people with a shellfish allergy experience their first reaction as adults.

The 12oz bowls, distributed to Target stores nationwide from 17 April 2025, include lot codes L5055-1 to L5055-6, UPC 085239931356, and a “best if used by” date of 24 August 2026.

The company launched the recall after three consumers reported shrimp in the product. However, no illnesses had been reported as of 10 September 2025.

Consumers who bought any affected Good & Gather Southwest-Style Burrito Bowl Blend should avoid eating it and contact Target Guest Relations at (800) 440-0680 for a full refund.

Recent radioactive shrimp recall

This news comes just a week after the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) expanded its recall of frozen shrimp products linked to caesium-137 (Cs-137), a man-made radioactive isotope. Over 26,000 packages of frozen cocktail shrimp from Aquastar Corp were recalled, alongside 18,000 bags of Kroger Mercado Cooked Medium Peeled Tail-Off Shrimp.

Although radiation levels in the contaminated shrimp remained well below the 1,200 Bq/kg intervention threshold, repeated low-dose exposure can damage DNA in living cells and increase cancer risk over time.
