In its recall notice, Country Eggs said:

The potential for contamination was noted after being brought to our attention by the FDA and other authorities that our product may contain the presence of salmonella. Production of the product has been suspended while FDA and the company continue their investigation as to the source of the problem.”

The FDA identified Country Eggs as the common supplier after conducting traceback analysis based on where affected individuals reported shopping or eating egg-containing dishes. States with confirmed cases include Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Minnesota, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania and Washington.

Salmonella infection poses particular risks for young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms typically include fever, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and sometimes bloody diarrhoea.

CDC advice for food businesses

Food operators must not sell, use, or serve the recalled eggs. The CDC also advises food operators to wash and sanitise any equipment, utensils or surfaces that came into contact with the eggs to reduce the risk of cross-contamination.

CDC advice for consumers

The CDC urges consumers not to eat any recalled eggs. Instead, they should discard them or return them to the retailer for a refund. Wash thoroughly any kitchen items or surfaces that came into contact with the eggs using hot soapy water or a dishwasher. Anyone experiencing severe diarrhoea, fever above 102°F, bloody stools, persistent vomiting or signs of dehydration must seek immediate medical attention.

Country Eggs added:

Ensuring the safety and quality of the eggs we supply to our customers is our responsibility and our focus each day. We know this is concerning, and supporting you through this process is our priority. We apologise for the disruption this situation creates in your business.

We are committed to addressing this matter fully and to implementing all necessary corrective actions to ensure this does not happen again. Your trust in our team and our products is essential to our business, and we will continue to keep you updated as the situation evolves.”
