Lidl GB is recalling its Red Hen 4 Tempura Chicken Steaks after it found the product’s label does not clearly emphasise milk, posing a potential health risk for allergy sufferers.
The recall, announced on 1 August, affects all 380g packs of the product with best before dates of 11 and 16 December 2026, 22 and 30 December 2026, and 16 January 2027.
In the product recall notice, Lidl confirmed:
Lidl GB is recalling the above-mentioned product due to milk not being in bold within the back of pack ingredients.”
The supermarket has confirmed that no other Red Hen products in Lidl GB stores are affected by the recall. They have also placed point-of-sale notices to inform shoppers about the risks and what to do next.
Customers with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents should not consume the affected product. They should return it to the store where they bought it for a full refund.
Lidl added:
We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your cooperation.”
Customers wanting more information should contact Lidl Customer Care at [email protected] or call 0203 966 5566.
Recent supermarket recalls
The Lidl chicken recall comes amid several recent allergen-related product withdrawals across major UK supermarkets. Last month, Tesco withdrew three chilled pasta salads from its meal deal range after routine testing uncovered salmonella. At the same time, Waitrose & Partners urgently recalled its Indian Takeaway for 2 when it discovered some packs contained undeclared sesame and soya, putting allergy sufferers at risk.
