Hazard analysis critical control point (HACCP) principles have become frequently used throughout the UK and are becoming more and more common in many other countries around the world. HACCP has become synonymous with food safety.

It covers biological, chemical and physical hazards that can occur during the production process and may make the finished product unsafe for consumption. An increasing number of companies jumps on the bandwagon and sells products that meet HACCP standards. So does PCE Instruments by including the PCE-IR 100 food thermometer in their product range.

The PCE-IR 100 temperature meter is an ideal compact tool for food inspectors, employees in food production and processing, etc. to measure surface temperatures of food without contact, using infrared technology, and core temperatures with the foldable penetration probe. LEDs indicate whether temperatures are below 4 °C, between 4 °C and 60 °C or above 60 °C. This is the easiest way to quickly assess whether the food temperature fulfils HACCP standards.

Its broad measurement range of -33 to +220 °C for infrared measurement and – 55 … to + 330 °C for contact measurement and the high accuracy makes the PCE-IR 100 useful for numerous applications. Its short response time helps the user to get quick results which is very important when several measurements need to be made. The emissivity can be adjusted between 0.1 and 1.0 but is pre-set to 0.97 which is the ideal emissivity for food. The tester’s IP 65 ingress protection makes hygienic cleaning possible. Also, continuous measurements can be carried out for at least 40 hours if the batteries are full. Therefore, there is no need to interrupt measurements too often. Values can be held in the display for 15 s.

The PCE-IR 100 thermometer comes factory calibrated but can be ordered with an optional ISO calibration certificate. The standard package includes the device itself as well as two AAA 1.5 V batteries and an instruction manual.

On PCE Instruments’ website, you can find some more information on this and other temperature meters which are suitable for various applications in the food and other sectors.
