Beverage Partners Worldwide joint venture to focus on Europe and Canada

The Coca-Cola Company and Nestlé S.A. today announced that they have agreed to focus the geographic scope of their ready-to-drink tea joint venture, Beverage Partners Worldwide (BPW), on Europe and Canada. In Taiwan and Hong Kong, The Coca-Cola Company will enter into a license agreement with Nestlé for the NESTEA brand. In all other territories the joint venture will be phased out in a transition to be completed by the end of 2012, subject to any regulatory approval. In addition, the current NESTEA license granted by Nestlé to The Coca-Cola Company in the United States will terminate at the end of 2012.

Retirement of Chief Financial Officer Jim Singh – Appointment of Wan Ling Martello

The Board of Directors of Nestlé S.A. appointed Wan Ling Martello, currently Executive Vice President of Global e-Commerce, Emerging Markets Walmart, to succeed Jim Singh as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Nestlé, effective 1 April 2012.

Chocolate aeration – Art or science?

Bubble inclusion into chocolate results in a foam in which the gas is dispersed in the continuous fat phase of mainly cocoa butter, which also contains sugar, cocoa and milk powder particles. Aeration allows chocolate products to have a low weight in relation to volume, thereby reducing the calories in a portion (albeit not by weight). It also imparts a unique texture on the final product. A vast array of different aerated chocolate products can be found worldwide (Figure 1).

Aeration of chocolate has been widely used commercially since the patenting of an aerated product in 19351. Since then, several methods to introduce bubbles into chocolate have been developed2. Despite the various methods of including bubbles in chocolate, the science of bubble formation and stabilisation is still poorly understood. (more…)

Nestlé invests CHF 98 Million to increase production in Thailand

Nestlé will invest more than CHF 98 million (THB 3.5 billion) in Thailand to increase manufacturing of its products including coffee and ice cream. The two year investment will support the expansion of the Company’s existing factories in Thailand, as well as the construction of a new Nestlé Quality Assurance Centre. The plans aim to meet the growing demand for Nestlé products in the country and the surrounding region.
