Speaking at the World Dairy Summit in Parma, Italy, Dennis Jönsson, President and CEO of Tetra Pak, yesterday outlined the company’s vision for a sustainable dairy industry that will help to ensure global food security.
In his keynote address, Jönsson described three key drivers that have transformed the dairy industry in the 60 years since Tetra Pak was founded: a global population that has almost tripled; higher worldwide expectations in relation to health and well-being; and a greater understanding that the world’s resources are under threat.
“These have created both challenges and opportunities for our industry, requiring collaboration, innovation and a commitment to corporate responsibility if we are to ensure a sustainable future for our industry,” he told Summit delegates.
Jönsson spoke of the need for stronger partnerships across the dairy value chain as well as with governments, academia and civil society, to tackle the rising and widening demand for safe and nutritious food … and the imperative of achieving this in ways that are both environmentally and socially responsible.
“As the world’s population continues to climb, expectations rise and climate change issues intensify, the obligation for companies in our industry to take a sustainable, responsible approach to food supply becomes ever-more critical,” he said.
